7 Affirmations to Quiet Self-Doubt

I’ll admit I sometimes wish I were someone else. A better artist. A confident writer. A successful entrepreneur.

I doubt the person I am lucky enough to be.

It’s not easy for us artists. Far from it. Day in and day out, we muster up the courage to paint a world only some can imagine. And everyday, we bare our heart and soul on a canvas… or on a blog. For the whole world to see.

Don't we all wish we were better than where we are now? We dream to one day stand next to our heroes and bask in the same limelight. Even for a second. To finally reach their level of talent and their way of thinking. To be as consummate as we think of them to be—knowing all that they know and wielding the power of self-confidence. In our mind’s eye, we know we’ll get there.

But we all often doubt the process.

There’s just one simple, but powerful way to stop self-doubt in its tracks. I know you don’t believe me yet. But it’s what gets me returning to my sketchbook everyday.

It's simply talking to yourself.

It’s reminding yourself that you are good enough, that your work is worth a frame, that you are doing the best you can each and every day.

These affirmations are so much more than just reciting a script. It might feel like you’re faking it the first few days, but your heart will feel the words and your mind will catch on. It’s psychosomatic—believe you are happy, and your body will feel the “symptoms” of happiness.

There are 7 in my wallet, just behind my Jin Tea stamp card, that I’d like to share with you. When I start to doubt myself, I take a deep breath and read these sentences to recourse my train of thought. I am, after all, the pilot of my own life… (What I should have said was conductor. But you get my point.)

When my confidence begins to falter, I remind myself:

  1. I am happy.

  2. My body is healthy; my mind is brilliant; my soul is tranquil.

  3. I am learning quickly and am solving more creative problems everyday.

  4. I wake up today with strength in my heart and clarity in my mind.

  5. I believe in my work and routinely, happily, and without hesitation, share my creativity with others.

  6. I am doing the best I can and I am happy with my progress.

  7. I have everything I need to do the things I was born to do.

If you didn't feel your power, I dare you try again.

Read them slowly.

Let your heart and soul feel the words.

Easy enough, right?

We oughta nourish our heart and soul with positive affirmations when we start to question our worth.

We need to take a moment from our hectic lives to honor our progress. To calm our overwhelmed minds of all the things we should be doing right now. We need to take a deep breath and bring attention to our hard work. To remember to give ourselves credit for the things we’ve accomplished.

Sometimes all it takes is a few sentences to remind ourselves of the person we are lucky enough to be.

Did any of these affirmations stick with you? Let me know in the comments below. I'd love to hear your thoughts. *✧・゚
